In order to improve the automatic washing process in certain gas turbine sections, simultaneous measurements were taken for different sprays: speed using PIV and concentration and size of droplets using ombroscopy.
The tests made use of significant technical resources (robots, lasers, lights, cameras) to create measurement profiles in several flow sections.
A specific droplet detection algorithm was developed to remove the influence of a film of water on vein walls.
Post-processing of the data has allowed us to understand the key parameters of the washing process and also highlight optimal and unfavourable configurations.
In view of the large amount of data acquired and processed, we have developed acquisition and processing tools adapted for routine use on site.
